The anticipation around The Game Awards has been intense, particularly after host Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not on the cards right now.
Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This distinction implies that the team could be building a real-time experience instead of another tactical title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, player agency, and complex character building—elements that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.
The series is also notoriously permissive, allowing players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might progress the story because you remembered something a non-human character said.
- Or, you could overcome an obstacle by using the world itself in a inventive way.
A New Chapter Begins
It is this design philosophy that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can get ready for a new entry in this legendary franchise.
